Maplewood Woman Wins $200,000 Prize
JUNE 30, 2008 — Last Thursday, Melvenia Williams of Maplewood played a Slots of Money scratch ticket the way that she always does, first uncovering the play areas to see if she has won and waiting to uncover the prize amount until the very end. This time, her routine ended with a $200,000 surprise.
After scratching the play areas on the entire ticket and seeing that she won something, Williams “slowly scratched the prize amount,” she recalled. “I saw $200 and thought, ‘Cool.’ Then I saw another zero and another and another.” Once she uncovered the entire prize amount, she saw that she’d won $200,000. “Then you have to show it to everybody and say, ‘Do you see what I see? Is that what it looks like?’”
Williams claimed the prize at the Lottery’s headquarters in Roseville this morning. Holiday, located at 1345 Marshall Ave. in St. Paul, sold Williams’ winning ticket.
Slots of Money is a $10 scratch game that offers a $200,000 top prize. To play, scratch the play area and win the prize shown in any one “pull” if you get three like symbols in that pull. If you uncover three “wild” symbols in any one pull, win all 16 prizes!
The overall odds of winning a prize by playing Slots of Money are 1 in 3.21. There are currently four of five $200,000 top prizes remaining to be claimed.
