Palisade Resident’s Numbers “Finally Pay Off” With $200,000 Powerball® Win
JULY 6, 2009 — Alida Scott of Palisade plays the numbers 3-11-18-22-28 for every Powerball drawing. These numbers have special significance to Scott: “3” is her birthday; “11” is her mom’s birthday; “18” is the day she was married; “22” is her dad’s birthday; and “28” is her husband’s birthday. Scott said the numbers “finally paid off” — to the tune of $200,000 — on June 20.
“I always check them [her tickets] on Friday and get my tickets for the next week,” Scott said. She followed this routine on Friday, June 26, but it had a very different outcome: the clerk told Scott she needed to go to the Lottery’s main office to claim the prize because it was above the amount she could pay at the store. The clerk then printed the report that said one ticket sold in Minnesota won $200,000 from the drawing on June 20.
“I looked at it and said, ‘No — it’s not real,’ Scott said as she claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Roseville on July 2. “I looked at it again. I told my sister, ‘Look at this; I won that!’” referring to the $200,000 prize.
The winning ticket was purchased at Holiday Station Store, 1 Minnesota Ave. S. in Aitkin.
Powerball is the multi-state lotto game that offers players nine ways to win. Players select five numbers from 1 to 59 and a Powerball, from 1 to 39. The jackpot is won by matching all five numbers plus the Powerball. Approximate odds of winning a cash prize are 1 in 35.1 and approximately 1 in 195.2 million to win the jackpot.
For an extra $1 per Powerball play, players can purchase the Power Play® option to multiply their prizes (except the jackpot) by two, three, four or five times. A Power Play wheel randomly draws the Power Play number before the winning Powerball numbers are drawn. Players can win up to $1 million with Power Play.
