International Falls Resident Wins $39,146 Northstar Cash^® Jackpot

JULY 7, 2009 — Susie Donnell usually buys two tickets for the daily Northstar Cash drawing. On the way home from work on Sunday, July 5, the International Falls resident stopped at Freedom Valu Center, 1709 – 2nd Ave. in International Falls to purchase her tickets for that night’s Northstar Cash drawing.

Later that evening Donnell called the Lottery’s winning numbers line and wrote down the winning numbers for that night’s drawing (4-13-17-18-29). She was amazed when one number after another on one of the tickets matched those numbers. “I got to the fifth number and thought, ‘There’s something wrong here,’” Donnell recalled.

She told her husband, “I think I won Northstar Cash!” After he compared the numbers on her ticket to the winning numbers, he told his wife, “I think you did too.” Donnell said she initially thought she won $25,000, and then $38,000, before she learned that the jackpot was $39,146.

As she claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Roseville on July 6, Donnell said, “I woke up this morning thinking, ‘Did I dream this?’”

The following Northstar Cash jackpot prizes are unclaimed: $25,000 from the drawing on July 6, 2009 (sold in Otter Tail County); $57,277 from the drawing on June 19, 2009 (sold in Stearns County); and $28,000 from the drawing on July 16, 2008 (sold in Stearns County). Northstar Cash players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes.

To play Northstar Cash, players select five numbers from 1 to 31. Matching the five numbers drawn wins the jackpot, which starts at $25,000 and grows until it is won. Players also win by matching 2, 3 or 4 of the numbers drawn.

Northstar Cash drawings are conducted daily after the Daily 3® drawing. Tickets must be purchased by 6:10 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
