Babbitt Resident Wins $101,655 Gopher 5® Prize
 JUlY 31, 2008 - Dedication and persistence paid off in a big way for a Babbitt man. After years of playing the same set of Gopher 5 numbers, Frank Husar finally hit the jackpot, matching all five winning numbers (3-5-7-21-27) from the July 15 drawing.
Husar picked his lucky numbers using important dates, he explained after he arrived at the Lottery’s headquarters in Roseville on July 30 to claim half of the $203,310 jackpot. “Three is my birth month, five is my wife’s birth month, seven is my son’s birth month, 21 is my Grandpa’s birth date and 27 is our wedding anniversary.”
When asked if he will continue to play the same set of numbers, Husar smiled and said, “I guess so, there’s no point in stopping now.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Zup’s Food Market, located at 1 Commerce St. in Babbitt.
Husar’s ticket was one of two sold to split the $203,310 Gopher 5 jackpot. The other share was claimed by Reginald Washington of Golden Valley.
Gopher 5 is Minnesota’s own cash lotto for which players pick five numbers from 1 to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot of at least $100,000. The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 1,533,939. The odds are 1 in 7,304 for matching four of five numbers to win $500; 1 in 178 for matching three of five numbers to win $15; and 1 in 13 for matching two of five numbers to win $1. The approximate overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 12.
