Bird Island Resident Wins $36,664 Northstar Cash^® Prize

SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 - Mary Erickson of Bird Island is a regular Lottery customer at Mel’s 7-71 Truck Stop Inc., located at 19450 Highway 71 S. in Blomkest. “They [sales associates] always said someday they’ll give me a winner,” explained Erickson. That “someday” turned out to be Sept. 10, when the second line of her five-line quick-pick ticket matched all five winning numbers, 4-7-8-20-31, to split the $73,328 Northstar Cash jackpot. Erickson’s share of the jackpot was $36,664.

Erickson discovered her win on Sept. 11 after bringing “a months worth of Lottery tickets” to the truck stop to have checked. “They usually joke around with me and tell me I have a winner, but this time they weren’t kidding!”

Erickson arrived at the Lottery’s headquarters the following day to claim her prize.

The second $36,664 Northstar Cash jackpot (purchased in Benton County) won on Sept. 10 has not yet been claimed. A $28,000 Northstar Cash jackpot from the drawing on July 16, 2008 (purchased in Stearns County) is also still unclaimed. Northstar Cash players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.

To play Northstar Cash, players select five numbers from 1 to 31. Matching the five numbers drawn wins the jackpot, which starts at $25,000 and grows until it is won. Players also win by matching 2, 3 or 4 of the numbers drawn.
