Maple Grove Resident Wins a New Car
at the State Fair
 SEPTEMBER 17, 2009 — Fred Bauermeister of Maple Grove visited the Lottery’s booth at the State Fair on Aug. 30 and entered a non-winning scratch ticket into the drawing drum, hoping to be one of the 45 finalists to win a new car. “On Monday (Aug. 31) when I got home from work I had a call that I was one of the finalists,” he recalled.
On Sept. 5, which is Bauermeister’s birthday, the 45 promotion finalists (or their proxies) randomly received an envelope at the Lottery’s booth at the Minnesota State Fair and opened them all at once. Bauermeister’s envelope contained a picture of a car, making him the grand prize winner.
Bauermeister won a 2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid provided by the local Toyota Dealers Association. The prize, valued at approximately $36,300, includes payment of the sales tax, license fees and applicable state and federal withholding taxes on the prize. The other 44 finalists each won gift bags that included $100 in Lottery scratch tickets and other fun items from the Minnesota State Lottery.
“I opened it (the envelope) up and there was the car,” Bauermeister said. “I thought, ‘I won it!’ The last new car I had was a 1978 Ford Pinto so it’s been a while since I’ve had a new car. This is really going to be nice.”
The Lottery teamed up with the local Toyota Dealers Association and KSTC Channel 45 for this promotion. “This was the second year the Lottery had a sales booth and gave away a car at the Fair,” said Lottery Executive Director Clint Harris. “Our booth was very popular with Fair-goers.”
