Fairfax Resident Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize
 SEPTEMBER 22, 2009 — Nancy Nelson’s husband wanted pancakes for breakfast yesterday morning, so the Fairfax resident went to Fairfax Mart at First St. N.W. & Highway 19 in Fairfax for some eggs. She decided to buy a Sapphire Blue 5s scratch ticket while she was in the store.
When she got back home Nelson scratched the ticket. She knew she won something when one of her numbers matched the winning number of 12. “I thought, ‘12 matches 12,’” Nelson recalled. She said she never reveals the prize amount until she plays all of the games on the ticket. As she went back to uncover the prize, Nelson was thinking,
“It needs to be more than $5.” It was. “It said $100,000!” Nelson exclaimed. She showed the ticket to her husband and asked him, “What does this say? Look at this and see if it’s real!”
Nelson and her husband drove to Minnesota State Lottery headquarters in Roseville to claim the $100,000 prize. “He never did get his pancakes,” Nelson said with a smile.
Sapphire Blue 5s is a $5 scratch game that offers a $100,000 top prize. Currently three of five $100,000 prizes remain in the game. Overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.62.
Proceeds from the Minnesota State Lottery benefit all Minnesotans. Since 1990, the Lottery has raised more than $1.7 billion for state programs.
