Minneapolis Resident Wins $588,277 Jackpot

SEPTEMBER 22, 2009 — Steven Elvendahl of Minneapolis won a Gopher 5® jackpot worth $588,277. He claimed the prize at the Lottery’s headquarters in Roseville on Sept. 22.

Elvendahl’s ticket matched all five numbers drawn (1-5-10-15-18) on Sept. 16 to win the $588,277 jackpot.

SuperAmerica, located at 2501 Hennepin Ave. in Minneapolis, sold the winning ticket.

Gopher 5 is Minnesota’s own cash lotto for which players pick five numbers from 1 to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot of at least $100,000. The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 1,533,939. The approximate overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 12.

Proceeds from the Minnesota State Lottery benefit all Minnesotans. Since 1990, the Lottery has raised more than $1.7 billion for state programs. The General Fund has received over $1 billion to help fund important functions such as education, public safety and health and human services. Another $677 million has funded critical environmental programs.
