“Zeros” Were This Girl’s Best Friend
MARCH 18, 2008 — As Cathy Johnson was heading to work on Saturday, March 15, she stopped at the Gilbert Get-N-Go at 1 Broadway St. N. in Gilbert. Johnson intended to purchase a $500,000 Spectacular scratch ticket, but settled on a Lucky Times 10 ticket instead.
The Gilbert resident scratched the ticket when she got to work 15 minutes later. When she got to game #9 on the ticket, Johnson knew that she won a prize when her number of 69 matched the lucky number of 69. “At first I thought it was $250,” Johnson recalled. “Then I kept getting more zeros.” The prize for the matching numbers was $250,000.
“I was jumping around and screaming,” Johnson said. “I called my husband — my voice was shaking so he thought something was wrong. I said, ‘No, it’s good!’”
Johnson claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Roseville on March 17.
Three of four $250,000 prizes remain to be claimed. The overall odds of winning a prize by playing the Lucky Times 10 scratch game are 1 in 3.33.
