Birthday Gift is Worth $100,000

SEPTEMBER 26, 2009 — John Redmond of Buhl received the ultimate birthday gift — $100,000! His daughter, Carol Redmond of Chisholm, bought a Border Battles ticket earlier this month for his birthday.

John scratched the ticket before the family went to dinner to celebrate his birthday. He looked at the ticket and knew that he won $100,000. He tapped it on the table, handed it to Carol and said, “Here — look at this one.” She studied it and said, “It looks like you just won 100 large!”

While the Redmonds were at Lottery headquarters in Roseville on Sept. 24 to claim the prize, John said with a smile, “Somebody has to win some time!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Buhl Short Stop, 600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Buhl.

Border Battles is a $5 scratch game that offers players 18 chances to win a $100,000 top prize. Currently three of five $100,000 prizes remain in the game. Overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.63.
