Prior Lake Resident Wins $61,365 Northstar Cash® Jackpot
SEPTEMBER 29, 2009 — Thomas Jones of Prior Lake bought a five-line quick-pick ticket for the Sept. 27 Northstar Cash drawing at Shakopee Dakota Convenience Store, 14160 Wilds Path N.W. in Prior Lake.
As he was doing laundry and eating breakfast on Monday morning (Sept. 28), Jones remembered the ticket and went online to check the winning numbers. After he saw that the first winning number matched the first number on the first line of his ticket, he said, “I looked at the ticket and looked at the screen and looked at the ticket and looked at the screen.” He did this five times, as all five numbers matched to win the $61,365 jackpot.
Not believing his luck, Jones said he got on the telephone to call the Lottery’s winning numbers line to confirm the win — and would have checked the winning numbers in the newspaper too if he had one.
“Once I convinced myself that I had all five numbers, I thought, ‘I have to get ready to claim it!’” Jones said as he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Roseville on Sept. 28.
The winning Northstar Cash numbers for Sept. 27, 2009 were 5-20-22-23-28.
To play Northstar Cash, players select five numbers from 1 to 31. Matching the five numbers drawn wins the jackpot, which starts at $25,000 and grows until it is won. Players also win by matching 2, 3 or 4 of the numbers drawn.
Northstar Cash drawings are conducted daily after the Daily 3® drawing. Tickets must be purchased by 6:10 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
