Mega Millions Coming to Minnesota

Sales for multi-state game could begin in early 2010

OCTOBER 13, 2009 — The groups that run the multi-state lottery games Powerball® and Mega Millions, the mega-jackpot game sold in 12 large states (such as California, New York and Texas) have reached an agreement in principle to allow all U.S. lottery jurisdictions to sell both games. Details are being worked out to ensure the final agreement works for both Powerball and Mega Millions groups. Powerball is sold in 33 lottery jurisdictions.

“Powerball, with drawings on Wednesday and Saturday, is very popular in Minnesota; the agreement with the Mega Millions consortium will give our players the opportunity to play a second multi-state jackpot game on Tuesday and Friday,” said Lottery executive director Clint Harris.

“Allowing state lotteries to sell both Powerball and Mega Millions will create more winners and generate additional revenue for the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund and General Fund,” Harris added.

Mega Millions tickets could go on sale in Minnesota in early 2010. For more information about Mega Millions, visit www.megamillions.com. Information about Powerball can be found at www.powerball.com.
