Crystal Resident Wins $64,169 Northstar Cash^® Jackpot

Winning Ticket was in a Drawer for Nearly Two Months

NOVEMBER 17, 2008 — Raymond Gillis of Crystal said that when he plays Northstar Cash, he always purchases two tickets. He thinks of the second ticket as “an insurance ticket.” As it turned out, he didn’t need any insurance. The first line on the quick-pick ticket that he purchased for the Sept. 20 drawing matched all five numbers to win the $64,169 jackpot.

Gillis said that he’s come close several times, matching four of the five numbers. When he saw that his ticket matched all five, he was shocked. “I just couldn’t believe how they all matched up. I had to call the Lottery office to double check the winning numbers. Then I couldn’t believe how much the jackpot was. I thought it was maybe worth $25,000, but over $64,000? That’s just great.”

Gillis claimed the prize at the Lottery’s office in Roseville on Nov. 14. He explained why it took him almost two months to claim the prize. “I bought the ticket and put it in a drawer planning to check it later and then I forgot all about it until yesterday.”

The winning Northstar Cash numbers on Sept. 20, 2008 were 8-9-15-22-25.

Holiday, located at 5410 Lakeland Ave. N. in Crystal, sold the winning ticket.

A Northstar Cash ticket worth $28,000 for the drawing on July 16, 2008 (sold in Stearns County) has not yet been claimed. A Northstar Cash ticket worth $77,719 for the drawing on Nov. 15, 2008 (sold in Morrison County) also has not yet been claimed. Players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim all prizes.

To play Northstar Cash, players select five numbers from 1 to 31. Matching the five numbers drawn wins the jackpot, which starts at $25,000 and grows until it is won. Players also win by matching 2, 3 or 4 of the numbers drawn.
