Three Co-Workers Share $200,000 Powerball® Prize

Montrose 3MAY 22, 2009 — Three co-workers split a $200,000 Powerball prize that they won from the drawing on May 20.

Montrose residents Diane Dahlberg, Lonnie Harmon and Claire Erickson, who work together at Arctic Fox in Delano, have been pooling their money to buy Powerball tickets for approximately eight months. On May 21, the three discovered the numbers on their ticket matched the first five winning numbers (23-30-31-35-42, the Powerball was 6) to win the $200,000 prize.

“I didn’t believe it,” recalled Dahlberg, who was the first to discover the group’s windfall. But it didn’t take long for the good news to sink in — the three arrived at the Lottery’s headquarters in Roseville that morning to claim the prize. Each received a share of approximately $66,666 (before the required tax withholdings).

Dahlberg, Harmon and Erickson all agree that paying bills will be their first priority, but they also hope to have a little fun with the money, too.

SuperAmerica, located at 109 Oakwood Drive E. in Monticello, sold the winning ticket.

A $200,000 Powerball prize from the drawing on April 29, 2009 (ticket sold in Stearns County) has not yet been claimed. Players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim all prizes.

Powerball is the multi-state lotto game that offers players nine ways to win. Players select five numbers from 1 to 59 and a Powerball, from 1 to 39. The jackpot is won by matching all five numbers plus the Powerball. Approximate odds of winning a cash prize are 1 in 35.1 and approximately 1 in 195.2 million to win the jackpot.

For an extra $1 per Powerball play, players can purchase the Power Play® option to multiply their prizes (except the jackpot) by two, three, four or five times. A Power Play wheel randomly draws the Power Play number before the winning Powerball numbers are drawn. Players can win up to $1 million with Power Play.
