Minneapolis Mom Delivers Baby and Wins $500,000 Lottery Prize in the Same Week
MAY 26, 2009 — You could say winning a $500,000 Lottery prize was the second-best thing that happened to Denise Lasker last week. The Minneapolis mom claimed a half-million dollar prize on May 22, just four days after giving birth to her third child.
Lasker discovered her windfall after playing the $500,000 Cash Blowout scratch ticket she bought on Saturday, May 16. “I couldn’t believe it,” she recalled. “I started screaming so loud.” Being nine months pregnant, her family didn’t exactly think it was good news. “My husband was terrified something was wrong — everyone thought I was going into labor.” However, they were quick to realize what was actually going on.
With a C-section scheduled for Monday morning, the couple knew they wouldn’t have enough time to claim the prize. Lasker said she was unable to keep the good news to herself —she announced her win to everyone in the operating room where she delivered a healthy boy. Four days later (May 22) Lasker and her husband took their first trip away from their son. The couple arrived at the Lottery’s headquarters in Roseville to claim the prize. “It has been quite a week!” she said with a smile.
Holiday, located at 1301 Industrial Blvd. N.E. in Minneapolis, sold the winning ticket.
The $500,000 Cash Blowout scratch game is a $20 ticket that offers a top prize of $500,000. There are currently three of four $500,000 top prizes and four of five $50,000 prizes remaining. The overall odds of winning a prize by playing $500,000 Cash Craze are 1 in 2.99.
