St. Anthony Resident Wins $37,954 Northstar Cash^® Prize

MAY 27, 2009 — Harold Sterling of St. Anthony won $37,954 by playing the Lottery’s Northstar Cash game. Sterling’s ticket was one of two tickets sold for the May 26, 2009 drawing that matched all five winning numbers (1-7-26-28-30) to each win half of the $75,908 jackpot.

Last night (May 26), Sterling called the Lottery’s winning numbers hotline and wrote down the winning Northstar Cash numbers. When he compared the winning numbers to his ticket, he first thought that he had matched four of the five numbers to win $50. “I said, ‘Oh, I got four!’ Then I looked again and said, ‘Oh, I got them all!’” he recalled. “It was a real shock. I didn’t get much sleep last night. It takes a while to sink in. It’s starting to sink in — it will once I get the check and put it in the bank,” Sterling said with a smile.

Cub Foods, located at 3930 Silver Lake Road in St. Anthony, sold Sterling’s winning ticket.

The other $37,954 prize from the May 26, 2009 drawing was claimed by Solomon Gebremedhin of Minneapolis. The following Northstar Cash jackpot prizes are unclaimed: $28,000 from the drawing on July 16, 2008 (sold in Stearns County) and $44,401 from the drawing on March 15, 2009 (sold in Stearns County). Northstar Cash players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes.

To play Northstar Cash, players select five numbers from 1 to 31. Matching the five numbers drawn wins the jackpot, which starts at $25,000 and grows until it is won. Players also win by matching 2, 3 or 4 of the numbers drawn. 

Northstar Cash drawings are conducted daily after the Daily 3® drawing. Tickets must be purchased by 6:10 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
