At the Minnesota Lottery, we love giving away prizes—and with 2nd Chance, your fun doesn't have to end if your scratch ticket isn't a winner.
From cash and cars to unforgettable trips, Minnesota-made prize packs, and exclusive experiences you can't buy anywhere else, 2nd Chance promotions give non-winning tickets another shot at something exciting.
Here's everything you need to know to get in on the fun.
How to sign up
If you're new to 2nd Chance, creating a player account is free and only takes a few minutes. Simply sign up at mnlottery.com or through the MN Lottery App, and you'll be ready to enter eligible non-winning scratch tickets..

How do I know which tickets have a 2nd Chance?
It's easy! Just look for the 2nd Chance icon on the front of eligible scratch tickets. You can also find a complete list of current promotions by visiting the 2nd Chance page on mnlottery.com or on the Lottery App.

How do I enter my tickets?
Once you're signed in, choose the promotion you'd like to enter.
You'll need:
- The 4-digit game number found on the back of your ticket.
- The 10-digit entry code hidden beneath the scratched-off 2nd Chance logo on the front of the ticket.
Prefer using your phone? The MN Lottery App makes entering eligible tickets even easier with a quick scan.

Do I need to keep my ticket?
Nope! Once you've confirmed your ticket appears in your Entry History, you're free to toss it.
How will I know if I win?
We post winners on the 2nd Chance Winners page at mnlottery.com and in the MN Lottery App after each drawing.
We'll also send winners an email, so be sure to:
- Add mnlottery.com to your contacts.
- Check your spam or junk folder just in case.
Will the Lottery ever call me?
Sometimes.
If we need to verify information on your account, we'll give you a call.
If you win a prize over $600, we'll contact you by phone and email with instructions for completing your electronic winner affidavit.
When will I receive my prize?
Most prizes arrive within 3 to 6 weeks.
Prizes are shipped through SpeeDee and require a signature from someone 18 or older. If a delivery can't be completed after multiple attempts, don't worry—we'll contact you to make other arrangements.
One easy way to avoid delays? Make sure your mailing address is up to date in My Account.
Does 2nd Chance reduce the cash prizes on scratch games?
No.
A common misconception is that 2nd Chance prizes come at the expense of cash prizes. In reality, only a very small portion, if any, of a game's prize pool funds 2nd Chance promotions. In most cases, these prizes are added on top of the game's regular prize structure.
Why do 2nd Chance drawing dates sometimes change?
Occasionally, drawing dates need to be adjusted. Here are a few reasons why:
- A scratch game sells out sooner than expected.
- Retailers need additional time to return unsold tickets before the final drawing.
- Scheduled website maintenance temporarily pauses entries.
- A technical issue requires additional review.
- Contest dates need to be updated to match the official rules.
Our top priority is making sure every 2nd Chance drawing is secure, accurate, and fair. Sometimes that means adjusting the schedule to ensure everything runs as it should.
