Minnesota’s lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands are not only beautiful, they are critical for wildlife habitat, recreation and public health. Lottery dollars are invested in projects that help to protect native species, fight invasive species, protect water quality and provide opportunities for recreation.

While Bigfoot’s existence may be up for debate, there are several impressive creatures native to Minnesota—animals like wolves, bison and our moose friend here—that have benefited from state lottery proceeds through the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF).

“Two hundred years ago, there were tens of millions of bison in North America. Within a human lifespan, they had been slaughtered and reduced to just handfuls. Nobody knows exactly how many bison survived, but it's thought that all bison living today descended from as few as 100 individuals.”

All Minnesotans, lottery players or not, are living lucky, because lottery dollars help to create access to so many great natural resources such as a national park, an expansive state park system, and an abundance of scientific and natural areas — all of which have benefited from Minnesota Lottery proceeds through the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF).

Lottery dollars that fund the Minnesota Environment & Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF), have helped enable the International Wolf Center in Ely, the Voyageurs Wolf Project, and the University of Minnesota to conduct ongoing research, outreach, and education about wolves.
