There’s nothing quite as beautiful as the sight of dozens of white sails against a clear blue sky.

With more than 10,000 lakes, there’s somewhere nearby to get out on the water for a day, or more, of sailing.

You don’t have to be an experienced sailor or own a boat to learn what it feels like to slip over the water on the morning breeze. There are learn-to-sail programs on lakes across the Twin City area and throughout the state, and boats available to rent by those who have some experience.

If you’re looking for a little more adventure, you could charter a private sail on Lake Pepin and admire the spectacular scenery, schedule a day trip on Lake Superior, or a week-long adventure to explore miles of wilderness in the Isle Royal National Park on the largest fresh water lake in the world. Learn the ropes and take a turn at the helm or just sit back and take in the quiet beauty of a summer sail.

We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to partner with Adam Turman to create our Winnesota Summer scratch game and celebrate all that is special and unique about summer in Minnesota. Winnesota Summer is part of our MN Artist Collection of scratch games designed exclusively for the Lottery by local artists. Adams sailboat design was the inspiration for this post.

There are opportunities to give sailing a go all around the state, but the season doesn’t last long. If you’re a seasoned sailor or brand new to the sport, we hope you enjoy the Minnesota lakes this summer.
