Winter here in Minnesnowta can be long, but as true Minnesnowtans do, we make the most of it. We get out and play in the snow, cold and ice because we embrace the outdoors and all of the fun it provides for us. Here are 10 ways to get out and play this winter in Minnesnowta, thanks to our friends at Explore Minnesota:

  1. Outdoor Festivals:  We don’t hide from the snow or cold and we embrace the outdoors to celebrate all things winter. From snow sculptures to ice fishing to 5K races, Minnesnowtans will do anything and everything to celebrate outside.

  2. Winter Fat Biking:  Head to Cuyuna for some bold adventuring on your fat tire bike. The trails are groomed for winter riding and it’s probably some of the most fun you’ll have all winter.Photo Credit: Explore Minnesota/Jayme Larson
  3. Cross-country Skiing:  A wonderful way to explore the snowy trails in Minnesnowta. There’s just something breath-taking about being enveloped in the wonder of the wilderness blanketed in white.

  4. Snowmobiling:  The favorite mode of transportation in Minnesnowta, where there are over 22,000 miles of trails. Hop on your machine and take a ride through the wilderness.

  5. Ice Fishing:  Whether you bring a whole house or just a bucket out onto the frozen lake, ice fishing is a winter sport that some Minnesnowtans live for. Socialize with other anglers while you wait for the big one – it’s a “hole” lot of fun.
  6. Open Water Fishing:  Who woulda thought? You don’t even need ice! Find some open water and cast a line from the shore or a boat.

  7. Snowshoeing:  Take a snowfari and travel to places no one has been before on your snowshoes. This Minnesnowtan activity gets you out in nature whether you go on a groomed trail or make your own.

  8. Ice Climbing:  This unique experience is unlike any other sport – Minnesnowtans climb up a frozen rock-wall and figure out the puzzle to get to the top. It’s a great way to work up a sweat on a winter day.
