Silver Bay Winner Claims $156,563 North 5 Jackpot
ROSEVILLE, Minn. (Oct. 1, 2025) — Persistence paid off for a longtime Minnesota Lottery player who struck it big in the September 27 drawing.
Al Nelson, a Silver Bay man who plays the lottery nearly every day and has been using the same set of numbers for 13 years—drawn from family birthdates and jersey numbers—hit the jackpot with a North 5 win. A familiar face at the Silver Bay Municipal Liquor Store, where he buys his ticket each morning, he said he almost skipped his routine on Saturday to head to his camper in Wisconsin—but he’s sure glad he didn’t.
“I can’t believe it,” he said, noting how close he was to skipping Saturday’s drawing.
Kat, general manager at the Silver Bay Municipal Liquor Store said, “the whole bar was cheering him on. We’re so happy for him.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Silver Bay Municipal Liquor Store located at 95 Outer Drive. The business earns a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The North 5 numbers drawn on Saturday, September 27 were 3-4-13-17-24.
North 5 is a Minnesota-only lotto game that is drawn every day of the week. Tickets are $1 per play. Jackpots start at $25,000 and grow until won. The North 5 jackpot for Wednesday, October 1 is an estimated $31,000. Tickets must be purchased by 6:10 p.m. for the drawing at 6:17 p.m.
